This painting records a moment in history. It was a moving day when people were paying their respects to the late Queen in 2022. I was taking part in a plein air competition run by Hannah Bruce (who features in the painting) and it was purely by chance that we were due to paint in Windsor that day. The whole of this painting was completed in one day. The people and the dog in the foreground were all real, painted as quickly as possible as they moved past me. Many visitors, and the police came over to chat but I was rather annoyed when some security guards asked me to move to the other side of the barrier, having been painting for at least 3 hours! - Sarah Luton
