Collection: Sarah Luton

Sarah lives in Maidenhead. She studied at Bath Academy of Art including three months in Switzerland. After several years working as a graphic designer and illustrator, she became a self-employed artist and musician.

For both landscapes and portraits she uses mainly oil, but sometimes watercolour, charcoal or water soluble graphite. She paints landscapes en plein air (outside) where possible: sometimes she completes a study in one go and for more complicated scenes she returns at the same time of day as well as painting in the studio. She is inspired by water and recent work includes studies of the River Thames.

In 2022 she succeeded getting onto the long list for Jackson's Art Prize, 1 of 400 selected from 8949 entries, ('Thames Path in January' in the landscape category). In 2016 she won the 'Maidenhead and Me' competition with 'Busy Busy', an oil painting completed en plein air over a few days. In 2015 she was second in the Windsor Plein Air competition. In 2013 she won third prize in the Cookham Festival plein air competition with an oil painting 'Badgers Cottage' done under an umbrella in the rain!.

Portraits are usually painted from life in oil. In 2020 she made a series of portraits for NHS workers as a thank you for their work during the pandemic.
